Brainspotting

“Where you look affects how you feel.” –The Motto of Brainspotting

When the destination seems challenging, try a different path.

You know where you want to go, who you want to be, and how you feel. And you’ve been working hard to get there.

But perhaps the road you’re currently on hasn’t quite been what you expected – maybe you’ve encountered challenges, blocks, setbacks, or it just feels like you’re taking “the long way around” to get there.

Maybe it’s time to incorporate something new, something different, something to enhance the work you’re already doing.

Maybe it’s time to try Brainspotting.

What is Brainspotting?

Great question! Brainspotting is a relatively new – but effective and popular – therapeutic tool that focuses on using “spots” (relevant eye positions) in your visual field that help you access unprocessed trauma buried deep in the subcortex of your brain.

This trauma is often the root cause of many presenting issues.

It’s safe, natural, and effective as I attune myself meticulously and closely to you during the entire process. Developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003, therapists worldwide use this technique to help their clients experience faster, deeper results.

For more information, you can explore Dr. Grand’s informational website or reach out to me.

How does it work?

Brainspotting harnesses your body’s felt sense (bodily sensations) and its natural self-scanning, self-healing capacity – until your neurobiological system forms a new, healthier response pattern to your painful past.

Like “acupuncture for the brain,” it works from inside out and bottom-up, healing the unprocessed memories and emotions that cause anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and a host of other issues. You can use this tool to find and strengthen your natural resources and resilience.

Who can benefit from Brainspotting?

Everybody! Brainspotting works with almost any problematic issues affecting the mind or body.

But it’s not just for what ails you. You can also use it to expand your motivation, strength, and inner capacity for weight loss, academic performance, sports, or any number of other applications.

Whatever your goal, Brainspotting can help you get there more quickly and efficiently than talk therapy alone, mainly because it quickly accesses the subcortical brain, which houses your trauma files and your intuitive self, while talk therapy works primarily with the top part of your brain.

Of course, we can combine talk therapy in the front-loading, back-loading, and occasional psycho-ed in the middle of a Brainspotting session.

And we can use Brainspotting effectively via online sessions, as well.

Is Brainspotting even biblical?

Absolutely!

Read Psalm 121: 1-2 (NIV):
“I lift my eyes to the mountains –
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Or Psalm 123: 1-2 (NIV):
“I lift up my eyes to you,
to you who sit enthroned in heaven.
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the LORD our God,
till he shows us his mercy.”

Other examples include Proverbs 4:25-26, “let your eyes look straight ahead,” “fix your gaze directly before you,” Hebrews 12:2, “fixing our eyes on Jesus.”

These are examples of exhortation for God’s people to fix their eyes on God and His ways, which helps them remain steadfast in their trust in and love for Him and focused on His ways for them, even during difficult situations.

Brainspotting can be an effective spiritual practice, as shown in these passages.
